Posted By admin On 04.10.19Nov 16, 2016 Hi there. I have the Imax B6 mini battery charger and I want to connect it to my PC - is there a special cable I need to do this/software I need to download? Connecting IMAX B6 Mini Charger to the Computer. MurrayS November 16, 2016. Latest firmware of B6AC/ B6mini enables users to calibrate the charger by themselves. One very helpful way to obtain a list of chargers with PC datalogging capability is to consult the list of chargers supported by the free LogView software. Download it and go to the menu 'Device/Choose device and port', where you will find a list of almost a couple hundred chargers supported, ranging from cheap Imax B6 clones to high-end iChargers. The cheapest option is probably an Imax B6 clone ($20 or less shipped from US on eBay).
That requires an optional RS232 to USB adapter which can be purchased in a kit for around $10 (e.g. 'Tenergy PC Battery Monitor Software Kit' from all-battery on eBay), or which can be easily be assembled from a generic RS232 to USB board for a few dollars (most use the CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers). It uses the temperature jack to connect to the PC (so you cannot measure battery temp simultaneously while PC logging). The cheaper chargers usually have limited power, around 50W charging and 5W discharging. The latter is somewhat limiting if you wish to use them for capacity testing.

Further, beware that some models have removed usb/logging support in later versions of their products. So even though the case shows a usb or PC connection jack, it might not be wired to the pcb, or may not be supported by the firmware. If you say more about your needs we can probably give more specific advice. Also you can find much further info on hobby chargers by browsing/searching on various RC forums, e.g.
Yep I have already downloaded LogView, didn't think to look through the settings.I don't really want to mess about with RS232 to usb adaptors, just looking for one that's good to go.I noticed the accucell-8 no longer supports this or would have bought one of them.I generally use to charge 4S 5000mah lipo's and sometime 4S or 2S li-ion in a cradle. Wouldn't mind being able to do discharge tests but my charger can only discharge at 1A so maybe something that can discharge at a higher rate.I'm in UK and cant find the kit you mention. Probably that unit will work fine. One thing I am not sure of with these generic boards is whether there is potential for ground loops.
This is rare, but could cause problems with data corruption, or, more seriously, possible damage due to high currents flowing through unintended paths, e.g. Usb circuits on the PC (e.g. See the discussion at the end of this page ) To avoid this problem, many chargers ship with a special usb cable that has the ground removed (the case grounding from the outer sheath). You might consider making one of these (I don't know where they can be purchased).

You can test if the ground is removed by verifying with a multimeter that there is no connection (continuity) between the metal shields on both ends of the usb cable. You can find further discussion on the web in many audio forums (where ground loops caused by usb-connected devices often introduce noise/hum).
